Obviously a lot of you guys are looking to have more rotation and more turn. We’ve done lower body feels for more rotation ( https://youtu.be/symVln6qx1M) and upper body feels more rotation ( https://youtu.be/3Fa8c02DeJk). In this video, I want to do right side feels. This is not as much of a drill video but more of a feels you can use to increase your rotation.
We're going to start from the right shoulder and work our way down.
One of the first feels you can have from the top of your backswing is that you're trying to get your right shoulder to the target as soon as possible. Sort of in line with that, some players really like to try and get their right shoulder pointed more towards the target than their left.
Most of these are going to look the same. You may see the same thing when you record your own video, but you might feel something pretty drastic even though it doesn’t look all that different. The point is, does it feel better? Are you hitting the ball better? Are you getting better compression? Is the direction better? Are you seeing better results?
Next is the right hip feels. I said I want to get my right shoulder to the target sooner with feel number one. Really the same thing would apply with my right hip. From the top of my back swing, I'm feeling like my right hip gets closer to the target or gets to the target sooner than normal.
Now we’re going to continue on to the right knee. For me, this really feels like a right quad and right knee movement. I’m trying to get my right quad and my right kneecap facing the target as soon as possible. As I’m re-flexing I’m also trying to turn towards the target. In the follow through you really want to get your right knee even with your left knee and not stuck behind.
We did a video for early extension awhile ago. That station also works really well to help with rotation too. You’ll see it from the down-the-line view here and can check out the previous video https://youtu.be/4CjqcoCnR6c.
Finally we have the right foot feels. From the top of my swing into the early phases of my downswing, my right foot pushes on the ground and rotates counter-clockwise. That gives me a little counter movement that helps me turn. I imagine I’m trying to get my toes from straight forward – like 12:00 – to down towards 3:00. Once I get into the bottom portion of my swing, as I push my right thigh and kneecap towards the target, I’m also pushing off the inside part of my right foot.
That’s a bunch of different right side feels to try to do the same thing. Play with them. Start from the top of the shoulders and work your way down and find what works for you.
