This video is actually the second video in our SHALLOW YOUR DOWNSWING MASTER CLASS. https://ericcogornogolf.podia.com/sha.... In that course, we go through a series of videos all designed to help you shallow your downswing.
When we talk about shallowing the downswing, there's one big point we have to get across here that I talk about all the time and there's no getting around. The club face is the king of the hill. If your club face is open, you will have to go through a couple of pieces to identify why that is. But, if you've been trying to shallow your downswing for any period of time and the drills haven't worked and nothing else has worked, you most likely have an open club face.
If my club face is too open, I need to look at several checkpoints. I need to check my grip first. My grip should be neutral. Assuming my grip is neutral, I need to check my takeaway position. I want my club face to be tilted down some amount. I want the toe pointed down. I want to check the top of my backswing and look at my club face and see that my left wrist is flat. Those are the key checkpoints. Understand that if your club face is open, shallowing the club is going to be difficult.
To get the downswing right, we have to get the club face, square,. Check your grip, check your takeaway - tilted down - and check your top of the backswing for the club face.
