Obviously there are a lot of things that make elite ball strikers elite. But, there are really three main things.
The number one thing that separates the elite level ball strikers or someone moving athletically or not is the pressure in the feet. By that, I mean pressure in the feet mostly during the downswing and follow through. To be an elite level ball striker, there's got to be some pressure shifting forward into the left foot and there's got to be a lot of it. When you measure, they're actually shifting pressure into that left foot before they finish the backswing.
An elite level player is not only shifting pressure left early, but also opening a lot. How much should you open up or rotate? As much as you can! Can you open up too early and over-rotate? Probably not. As I'm shifting pressure, I'm opening up everything - hips, shoulders, chest, the whole nine yards. As I hit a ball, I'm pressing into my left foot and I'm opening my belt buckle and my chest to the target sooner.
The third thing elite ball strikers do really well is wrist conditions. If I could start working with a golfer from scratch, the first thing I would work on is wrist conditions. If you don't get the wrist conditions right, everything else is really difficult.
When I get to the top, I need to be checking where my wrist conditions are - left wrist flat and right wrist back. I need to be doing that during my downswing pieces and into my follow through.
So, how do you do those three things? For pressure in the feet, I want you to just start by feeling and playing around with it. Go Up to the top of your swing and get the pressure into your left foot more than you think. Hit balls and see what happens. Then hit some shots where you're getting the pressure forward and you're also feeling that you're getting all of you open to the target sooner. How do you practice wrist conditions? Use a plastic hanger or the Tour Striker Wrist Educator. We have videos on that like MY FAVORITE COMPRESSION DRILL FOR HITTING THE BALL SOLID https://youtu.be/A1jN9v8dTw4 You guys should all be able to do those.
So pressure in the left foot, opening and pushing forward and good wrist conditions. You get those parts right and it’s really hard to not play good golf.
