This video is actually the first video in our SHALLOW YOUR DOWNSWING MASTER CLASS. https://ericcogornogolf.podia.com/sha... In that course, we go through a series of videos all designed to help you shallow your downswing. What I talk about in this first video is just what does shallowing your downswing mean? So, let's go over what that even means in the first place.
When I say shallowing your downswing, all that I mean is that when you get to the top of your swing, if you were to draw a line through the club on the screen it’s on a certain angle. When you shallow your downswing - as you go from the top of your backswing down – that angle will get on a shallower or lower angle relative to where you were during your backswing. That’s it!
Why do I want to shallow out my downswing? The simple answer is it's better for everything. If you were to track before-and-after on Trackman as you shallow the downswing, you notice increases in club head speed - so you hit the ball farther. We noticed an increase in the ability to square the club face. We notice an increase in how high you hit the ball. It’s easier to find the middle of the club face for solid contact, and you are less likely to hit off the toe. All of these things are great things.
If I can get that club head on this angle, with the shaft lower and the club head more behind me, there's going to be an effect of that club wanting to seek 90 degrees. The club head is going to want to line up. If during my downswing, I get the club on the other side of my hands where it gets steep or the club head is outside my hands, I lose all of that benefit of that sort of free squaring of the club face.
