Removing and Installing a shower enclosure. If your going to take a project like this on remember there's a lot of help out there just for the asking. Like me PlumberX I'm here to help as much as I can. Lets get started. First of all lets turn the water of to the house or at the existing shower if there's a cut off there. Note to find the cut off to the shower again if there is one. Remove cover plate (trim) if this is a single handle shower and see if there are some small little cut off at the valve it self that would cut off with a screwdriver if not look on the bask side of the shower if there is a excess panel on the back wall of the shower in a closet or the room behind shower wall not there that's ok let's find the main cut off to the home. If you have a basement check to see if you can find the water main coming through the basement wall check the wall facing the front of the house it should be some were around there or if you live in a corner house check both walls that face the street if you have a finish basement it may be hiding behind a wall panel or in a closet. If you live in a home with out a basement check your utility room next to the hot water heater or if your down south check out side around the side or front of the home. Now lets get back to removing the old shower enclosure. Me I just start by remove the shower handle and the cover plate, and then I start by removing the old walls only around the tile or border of enclosure Just enough room to install the new shower. After this I clean the area really good and make room for working. After the shower enclosure has been remove and the area is clean I start with the show valve remove the old shower valve and replacing it with a new shower valve. Shower valve are always ways seat at 45" inches to the center of the valve off the floor. And the shower head is seat at 6'Ft 6" inches of the floor this is standard for the average person who will be taking a shower .When ever I take a job like this on. I will always buy the tub and shower enclosure that come in two to three parts this makes it easy to fit into the bath room and home. In most cases your not going to fit a full size shower enclosure in one piece into the bathroom are home. My next step is to seat the base of the shower first and connected it to the shower drain pipe and this pipe should be 2" inches no more no less. Its always a good idea to lay some type of cardboard or some thing soft and rugged enough to seat on the shower base to protected has you step in and out of the as your working on it. After this I begin to put the shower walls in place making sure that my cuts for the shower valve is cut right before seating the walls in place. And the final touches installing the shower valve trim cover and shower head.
